How does Readervcard identify the information on a card?

The app photographs the card and uses on-device text recognition to identify and organize information such as name and phone number. It uses native OCR for each platform (iOS and Android).

What is OCR, and why isn't recognition always accurate?

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is the technology that turns the text visible in the card image into data the app can interpret. Readervcard uses the native OCR technology available on each platform (iOS and Android), but recognition is not perfect because the system must identify different fonts, sizes, colors, and layouts from a photograph. Focus, lighting, glare, low contrast, small or stylized text, complex backgrounds, and overlapping information can reduce accuracy. As a result, one card may be recognized correctly while another is recognized only partially. Photographing the card in good light, keeping it flat, and holding the camera steady helps, but it is still important to review and correct the data before saving.

Is card data sent over the internet?

No. Recognition is processed locally on the device, without sending card data to external OCR APIs.

Where are contacts stored?

You can save the contact to your device address book or keep it in the app for later reference.

Which operating systems are supported?

It currently supports iOS 15.0 or later, macOS with Mac Catalyst support, and Android 8 or later.
